NPO Biomed, a key subsidiary of NPO Microgen (under the Natsimbio holding of Rostec State Corporation), has finalized a comprehensive modernization of its vaccine manufacturing unit. The project, which spanned over a year, involved the total reconstruction of an 800-square-meter production area designed to meet international quality standards.
Production Scope & Capacity: The modernized block is specifically engineered for the production of substances used in:
-
Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccine: Strengthening the domestic supply for the National Immunization Calendar.
-
Tetanus Toxoid: Ensuring stable production of vital antitoxins.
Technical Innovations & Infrastructure: The reconstruction involved a complete overhaul of the facility's engineering backbone to ensure a sterile and controlled environment:
-
HVAC Systems: Installation of a specialized ventilation network featuring three stages of air purification to maintain strict cleanliness classes.
-
Water Treatment: Integration of a high-tech water-for-injection (WFI) module utilizing the ultrafiltration method to ensure chemical and microbiological purity.
-
Equipment Qualification: All new production machinery has undergone formal qualification and is now fully operational.
Strategic Importance: This upgrade is part of a phased modernization strategy for NPO Microgen’s manufacturing sites across Russia. As the nation’s sole producer of rickettsial vaccines and anti-gangrene serum, the Perm branch remains a critical pillar of Russian biosecurity. With a portfolio exceeding 50 drug types, the enhanced facility ensures that NPO Biomed can continue to supply over 70% of the vaccines required by the Russian National Immunization Calendar.
