Construction of a Prefabricated Modular Building for a Thermal Disinfection and Decontamination Station for Pathogenicity Groups III–IV Effluents

01.06.2020

Under the urgent directive of Veronika Skvortsova, Head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA of Russia), a specialized infectious disease unit has been deployed at Central Medical and Sanitary Unit No. 58 (CMSU No. 58) in Severodvinsk. This rapid reconfiguration was designed to alleviate pressure on the regional healthcare system by providing 80 dedicated beds for patients with mild to moderate forms of the novel coronavirus infection.

The unit, which officially opened its doors on May 26, 2020, saw immediate utilization. Within the first 24 hours, 59 patients were admitted, all presenting with moderate pneumonia. Current reports indicate the facility is operating at full capacity, providing critical care to 81 patients.

Strategic Patient Triage: The facility operates as part of a tiered regional response network:

  • Mild to Moderate Cases: Managed at the newly repurposed CMSU No. 58 unit.

  • Severe Cases: Transferred to high-intensity infectious disease wards at Severodvinsk City Clinical Hospital No. 2 and the Regional Clinical Hospital.

  • Emergency Reserve: A dedicated pool of emergency beds is maintained for sudden influxes.

Biosafety and Community Responsibility: Andrey Basakin, Deputy Chief of Medicine at CMSU No. 58, emphasized that the success of these medical interventions depends heavily on public adherence to sanitary protocols. The facility operates under strict "Red Zone" and "Green Zone" separation to prevent nosocomial transmission, requiring rigorous use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all medical staff.
