Purpose and Air Purity Standards
The Product Protection Cabinet (SLS) is engineered for the safe handling of preparations, cell cultures, and other materials that do not pose a biological threat to the operator but require strict protection against environmental contamination. It establishes a localized sterile zone through a laminar flow of purified air, making it ideal for medical, pharmaceutical, and research laboratories with high air cleanliness requirements.
Operating Principle and Filtration
Air is forced into the working zone through a dual-stage filtration system consisting of a G4 pre-filter and a high-efficiency H14 class HEPA filter (99.995% efficiency for particles > 0.3 $\mu$m).
-
Airflow Pattern: After purification, the air enters the workspace as a downward unidirectional (laminar) flow, creating a sterile environment.
-
Exhaust System: Spent air is removed through perforations in the back wall and the gap beneath the front sash, maintaining a consistent protective barrier for the product.
Construction and Ergonomics
The cabinet features a durable metal-plastic frame divided into an upper air-processing module and a lower working chamber.
-
Sash Design: The inclined front panel is made of safety glass with three fixed positions: working, service (secured by a safety bracket), and fully closed.
-
Internal Workspace: Equipped with a lighting lamp, a UV germicidal irradiator, and two electrical sockets. The working surface consists of three removable matte-finish stainless steel trays, resistant to disinfectants, acids, and alkalis. A drip tray is located beneath the trays to collect accidental spills.
-
Safety Mechanisms: The UV lamp automatically deactivates when the front panel is raised to protect personnel from radiation exposure.
Control and Configuration
The system is operated via an analog control panel that manages operational modes, lighting, and the UV cycle. The standard configuration includes the H14/G4 filter set, UV and daylight lamps, a removable stainless steel tabletop, and a mobile stand (740 mm height) with adjustable supports. The unit is available in both tabletop and floor-standing versions.
Compliance and Validation
The SLS cabinet complies with GMP requirements and ISO 14644-1 (ISO Class 5 cleanliness). Validation is conducted in accordance with GAMP 5 and GMP Annex 11, confirming the stability of air velocities, filtration efficiency, and operational safety.
